La dimensione formativa nel teatro greco

As highlighted in the Italian and international literature on the topic, there is a close connection between the phenomenon of Classical Greek theatre and that of democratic participation in city life. Classical theatre acted as a key educational instrument on which it is ever of value to reflect. The ancients themselves were profoundly aware of the educational dimension of theatre: the literary sources analyzed in this article demonstrate that philosophers, historians, tragedians and comic playrights emphasized the educational function of theatre, in some cases from a critical perspective (see the complex position expressed by Plato). Many documents also bear witness to the fact that ancient Greek culture was itself engaged with complex issues surrounding the use of theatre, such as whether censorship was required or not, the relationship between ethics and aesthetics, and the relationship between education and politics.

Come evidenziato nella letteratura italiana e internazionale sull'argomento, vi è uno stretto legame tra l'affermazione del teatro greco classico e quello della partecipazione democratica alla vita di città. Il teatro classico è stato uno strumento educativo chiave su cui è sempre utile riflettere. Gli antichi stessi erano profondamente consapevoli della dimensione educativa del teatro: le fonti letterarie analizzate in questo articolo dimostrano che filosofi, storici, tragici e drammi comici enfatizzavano la funzione educativa del teatro, in alcuni casi da una prospettiva critica (vedi la complessa posizione espressa di Platone). Molti documenti testimoniano anche il fatto che la cultura greca antica si era profondamente interrogata su questioni complesse che riguardavano l'uso del teatro, quali la necessità o meno di una censura, il rapporto tra etica ed estetica, e il rapporto tra educazione e politica.
