Some of the leading North American containerboard producers, representing more than 75% of industry capacity have announced medium price increases of $40/ton for corrugating and linerboard products. Temple-Inland and Norampac were two of the first companies to inform consumers about the price increases. Two more producers, including G-P and Longview Fiber have also proposed price increases of $50/ton on containerboard on the West Coast, while Port Townsend Paper announced an increase of $40/ton. The higher increases would try to raise the West Coast list price differential from its level of $15/ton-25/ton as a result increase in chip costs. Smurfit-Stone Container and other suppliers are also planning to increase white-top linerboard prices by $40/ton from Januarry 1, 2007.
