This chapter aims at illustrating a cross-section of English history and language in the second half of the 14th century and the first half of the 15th. Three poems, handed down by Ms. Digby 102, are here analysed to show that language is not only a means of communication, but rather a linguistic system where a society's communicative requirements merge with history, politics and culture.

Abstract
This chapter aims at illustrating a cross-section of English history and language in the second half of the 14th century and the first half of the 15th. Three poems, handed down by Ms. Digby 102, are here analysed to show that language is not only a means of communication, but rather a linguistic system where a society's communicative requirements merge with history, politics and culture.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
