The European Spallation Source, which is currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, is designed to be the brightest source of neutrons and in the first phase users will have access to a suite of 15 instruments, where the neutrons will be provided by a butterfly shaped moderator system, placed above the spallation target. The goal of the HighNESS project, which is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program, is to provide a new design for the second moderator, situated below the spallation target, which will be the most intense neutron source in the world. The new moderator will provide a higher intensity of neutrons in the cold, very cold and ultracold energy regions. The features of this new source will boost several areas of condensed matter research and also will provide unique opportunities in fundamental physics. To support the design of the second moderator, the goal of Work Package 2 of the project is to provide nuclear data support for the neutronics calculations, as well as the accompanying software development for improved physics. In this paper, the recent advancements on NJOY+NCrystal, a novel tool for creation of thermal neutron scattering evaluated nuclear data files will be shown, as well as some continued work on nanodiamonds as advanced neutron reflectors.

Abstract
In this paper, the recent advancements on NJOY+NCrystal, a novel tool for creation of thermal neutron scattering evaluated nuclear data files will be shown, as well as some continued work on nanodiamonds as advanced neutron reflectors.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
