Late antique legislators needed to formally preserve legal texts inherited from the past. However, they transformed the normative discourse tailoring these texts to the new spatial and temporal context. Interpretations (in the Visigothic kingdom) and interpolations (in Constantinople) are possible macro-textual strategies to pursue the goals of normative rewriting and reuse. As an example of these procedures, this essay examines a group of interrelated sources (CTh. 2.19.1-3, ICTh. 2.19.1-3 and C. 3.28.27), highlighting the mechanisms of textual transformation and coordination of rules
