Drawing on our experience with users training at Milano-Bicocca University Library, we focus on the choice of e-learning as a tool for developing users’ information literacy skills. If we compare distance learning and on-site learning data, what are the pros and cons in terms of efficiency and efficacy? Why should one invest time and resources in online training? What opportunities, present and future, does an e-learning platform offer? Our article answers these and other questions and raises issues that can apply to other contexts as well.

Abstract

Drawing on our experience with users training at Milano-Bicocca University Library, we focus on the choice of e-learning as a tool for developing users’ information literacy skills. If we compare distance learning and on-site learning data, what are the pros and cons in terms of efficiency and efficacy? Why should one invest time and resources in online training? What opportunities, present and future, does an e-learning platform offer? Our article answers these and other questions and raises issues that can apply to other contexts as well.
