Since the French Revolution, women have struggled for the recognition of their rights as human beings and citizens. The history and transformation of European nation-states to welfare states thus cannot be fully understood without recognizing the fundamental contribution of women’s movements at both the domestic and transnational levels. Democratic regimes have been established as a result of challenges from those at the bottom of society, particularly challenges related to inequality and discrimination experienced by women in daily life in both the private realm and public space.

Abstract
Since the French Revolution, women have struggled for the recognition of their rights as human beings and citizens. The history and transformation of European nation-states to welfare states thus cannot be fully understood without recognizing the fundamental contribution of women’s movements at both the domestic and transnational levels. Democratic regimes have been established as a result of challenges from those at the bottom of society, particularly challenges related to inequality and discrimination experienced by women in daily life in both the private realm and public space.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
