La relazione fra generazioni nell'educazione e nella pedagogia antica

The project is part of a more articulated research that aims to investigate the representations of otherness (gender, age, cultural affiliation, etc.) in the history of education and ancient pedagogy, in order to identify stereotypes and latencies that have remained present in our culture. This part of the project focuses on the relationship between genres and generations, with particular attention to the relationship between young and old. The literature on the subject has recently expanded, but it has reached various and discordant conclusions (Cf .: Minois, 1987; T. Falkner, J. De Luce, 1989; Bakhouche, 2003; Brandt, 2010). The sources used are iconographic documents (ceramography, sculpture, funerary art) and literary type (philosophical literature, dramaturgy, historiography): they are analyzed in the light of some interpretative categories: the image of the old and the old; the formative value or less of the relationship between young and old and the fundamental theme of mastery between generations; the intertwining of gender and age. The research shows that the ancients were very aware of the many aspects of old age and how deep questions were asked about the link between elderly and new generations, on the magistrality or not of the elderly, on the different possibilities of facing old age. The project intends to continue in other directions, such as the analysis of the otherness of death and illness

Il progetto è parte di un più articolato filone di ricerca che si propone di indagare le rappresentazioni dell’alterità (di genere, di età, di appartenenza culturale, etc.) nella storia dell’educazione e della pedagogia antica, al fine di individuare stereotipi e latenze che sono rimaste presenti nella nostra cultura. Questa parte di progetto si focalizza sulla relazione fra generi e generazioni, con particolare attenzione alla relazione fra giovani e anziani. La letteratura sull’argomento si è recentemente ampliata, giungendo però a conclusioni non univoche (Cfr.: Minois, 1987; T. Falkner, J. De Luce, 1989; Bakhouche, 2003; Brandt, 2010). Le fonti utilizzate sono documenti di tipo iconografico (ceramografia, scultura, arte funeraria) e di tipo letterario (letteratura filosofica, drammaturgia, storiografia): esse sono analizzate alla luce di alcune categorie interpretative: l’immagine della vecchia e dei vecchi; la valenza formativa o meno della relazione fra giovani e vecchi e il tema fondamentale della magistralità fra generazioni; l’intreccio fra genere e età. Dalla ricerca emerge come gli antichi fossero molto consapevoli dei molteplici aspetti dell’età anziana e come si ponessero interrogativi profondi sul legame fra anziani e nuove generazioni, sulla magistralità o meno degli anziani, sulle diverse possibilità di affrontare l’età avanzata. Il progetto intende proseguire in altre direzioni, quali ad esempio, l’analisi dell’ alterità della morte e della malattia
