Guest editorial: Best of "Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation" (ABModSim)

The highlights of the proceedings of the 18th European Meeting on Cybernetics and Systems Research and the symposium on agent-based modeling and simulation are presented. The variety of topics addressed reflects the importance of the term agent in a growing number of disciplines, research and application areas ranging from social sciences to urban modeling and planning. The heterogeneity has led naturally to the development of different approaches, methodologies, and computational systems supporting simulation of the modeled realities. The main aim of these events is to contribute to reducing the distance between the different research and application contexts by stimulating sharing of experiences and facilitating cross-fertilization. This collection thus presents a range of efforts of applying agent based approaches to the modeling and analysis of social and economical systems.
