In this paper we present a pathway about the lunar phases based on a phenomenological approach and the active participation of students in the development of ideas and interpretative models. The paper shows how to drive the students towards the physical interpretation of lunar phases in terms of relative motion of the Moon, the Earth and the Sun, starting from a systematic observation-data collection about the Moon and using body games and 3-dimensional models to represent the phenomenon. The pathway was developed in the Fis21 Italian project and tested at different school levels from kindergarten to pre-service teachers’ preparation. In this paper we present the teaching/learning trajectory of a first middle school class (students 11-12 years old).

Abstract
In this paper we present a pathway about the lunar phases based on a phenomenological approach and the active participation of students in the development of ideas and interpretative models. The paper shows how to drive the students towards the physical interpretation of lunar phases in terms of relative motion of the Moon, the Earth and the Sun, starting from a systematic observation-data collection about the Moon and using body games and 3-dimensional models to represent the phenomenon. The pathway was developed in the Fis21 Italian project and tested at different school levels from kindergarten to pre-service teachers’ preparation. In this paper we present the teaching/learning trajectory of a first middle school class (students 11-12 years old).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
