The aim of the present study has been the creation of two indices to describe the main environmental impacts of aircraft operations, noise and air pollution, produced at each airport, regardless of the flight routes. The study case has been the Italian airport system in the 1999-2008 period. This analysis is based on the design of an environmental database that provides for each aircraft in the sample both noise levels and pollutants emissions for single arrival and departure. Noise levels and emission quantities are derived from certified values available at EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) websites. The final phase has consisted in the calculation of the two designed indices, the Evaluation Level of Airport noise and the Weighted Local Air Pollution index for the analyzed scenarios. Results for the top five airports are presented.
