Puer ludens. Poetica e politica del gioco

In all ages of life, play is often reduced to a tool, a sort of stratagem to make bitter pills more palatable, to facilitate memorization, to have fun and relieve stress after work, to fill the time between one task and another, when it is not seen as a waste of time. But this is a reductive vision of its potential, because play is much more: it is a way of being, a great “symbol of the world”, a quality of community life. The text highlights the link between the playful dimension and a poetic season of life that does not end with childhood, but can survive, if supported and nurtured, into adulthood. The Puer ludens is a "little hero" able to bring out amazement, wonder and passion, because he sees the world as a magical and fantastic playground and, at the same time, he sees the contradictions and madness of the adult world. A critical reading of the contemporary, which makes play and games strategies of distraction, alienation and dependence, takes the text from a poetic to a political dimension, proposing a concrete utopia, where play becomes a project of hope, always vibrant with new beginnings, dreams and revolution.

Il gioco, in tutte le età della vita, è spesso ridotto a uno strumento, una sorta di stratagemma per rendere più appetibili bocconi amari, per facilitare la memorizzazione, per svagarsi e alleggerirsi dopo un lavoro, per riempire spazi tra un’occupazione e l’altra, quando non viene visto come una perdita di tempo. Ma questa è una visione riduttiva del suo potenziale, perché il gioco è molto di più: è un modo di essere, un grande «simbolo del mondo», una qualità del vivere comune. Nel testo emerge il legame tra la dimensione ludica e una stagione poetica della vita che non si esaurisce nell’infanzia, ma che può sopravvivere, se sostenuta e alimentata, in età adulta. Così il Puer ludens è un piccolo eroe che sa far crescere con lui lo stupore, la meraviglia e la passione, perché continua a vedere il mondo come una stanza dei giochi, magica e fantastica, eppure vi sa scorgere anche le contraddizioni, e le follie del mondo adulto. Una lettura critica del contemporaneo, che fa del gioco una delle principali strategie di distrazione, alienazione e dipendenza, traghetta il testo da una dimensione poetica a una politica, proponendo un’utopia concreta, dove il gioco diviene un progetto di speranza, sempre vibrante di cominciamento, sogno e rivoluzione.
