The need to identify and value «the best interests of the child» is inevitably related to parenting skills and the consequent possibility of ensuring an adequate care environment in line with the child’s developmental needs. Assessment and intervention related to parenting skills, however, require strong theoretical assumptions, capable of detecting possible clinical and empirical indicators, which take into account the multidimensionality of a complex construct. In this line, the research on romantic attachment has opened new perspectives on the relationship between the quality of the sentimental bond and the harmonic development of the child.

Abstract

The need to identify and value «the best interests of the child» is inevitably related to parenting skills and the consequent possibility of ensuring an adequate care environment in line with the child’s developmental needs. Assessment and intervention related to parenting skills, however, require strong theoretical assumptions, capable of detecting possible clinical and empirical indicators, which take into account the multidimensionality of a complex construct. In this line, the research on romantic attachment has opened new perspectives on the relationship between the quality of the sentimental bond and the harmonic development of the child.
