The Mottier test (Mottier, 1951), a German non-word repetition task (NWRT) which is considered to be rather language-independent, is often used in the diagnostics of speech and language therapy to assess children's phonological working memory. However, norm data for monolingual children aged 3;0 to 3;11 years and multilingual children aged 3;0 to 4;11 years are currently unavailable. Based on N=256 children (52% boys, 48% girls; 40% multilingual; MAge = 4,25 years, SD=0,41), we report norm data for these target groups for the first time. The Mottier items were displayed at a presentation rate of two syllables per second using audio recordings. Neither the linguistic background nor the sex did affect children's nonword repetition performance. Due to the high proportion of children between 3;0 to 3;5 years, who refused to comply in the assessment (23,9%), we recommend that the Mottier test should only be administered with children aged 3;6 years or older.
