The progress of “social dialogue” and the protection of social rights have always gone hand in hand throughout the European integration process. Yet the harmoni-sation “of the progress” supported by the European social partners has stopped with the handling of the 2008 crisis and the EU economic governance choices. Going back to the genesis of the European social consultation and its current dead-lock, this article highlights the need for a new course of “social dialogue” capable of redefining the balance between freedom and rights in the European single mar-ket, following the approval of the European pillar of social rights.

Abstract
The progress of “social dialogue” and the protection of social rights have always gone hand in hand throughout the European integration process. Yet the harmoni-sation “of the progress” supported by the European social partners has stopped with the handling of the 2008 crisis and the EU economic governance choices. Going back to the genesis of the European social consultation and its current dead-lock, this article highlights the need for a new course of “social dialogue” capable of redefining the balance between freedom and rights in the European single mar-ket, following the approval of the European pillar of social rights.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
