The contribution analyses the substantive provisions of the International Convention on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, mainly focussing on the definition of the offence and its constitutive elements; the codification of enforced disappearance as an autonomous offence; the establishment of quasi-universal jurisdiction; the obligation to adopt preventive measures; the limitations to the right to obtain information on persons deprived of their liberty; Article 24 and the rights of victims; the limitations ratione temporis of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances; the prohibition of amnesties or similar measures; and the scope of military jurisdiction.
