We exploit the favourable optical and chemical stability of a model organic semiconductor, 1,1,4,4-tetraphenyl-1,3-butadiene, which is highly emissive in the blue spectral region, to explore crystal melt-growth on several substrates. Different polymorphs were obtained with either monocrystalline or fan-like morphology. We demonstrate the relationship between the optical properties and the crystal structure and morphology. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract
We exploit the favourable optical and chemical stability of a model organic semiconductor, 1,1,4,4-tetraphenyl-1,3-butadiene, which is highly emissive in the blue spectral region, to explore crystal melt-growth on several substrates. Different polymorphs were obtained with either monocrystalline or fan-like morphology. We demonstrate the relationship between the optical properties and the crystal structure and morphology. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
