In recent years, climate change is a crucial and compelling topic in public debate because of the risks for human life it could entail. This paper proposes a new hierarchical model-based composite indicator to explore the latent dimensions defining the climate change phenomenon. One of its main advantage is that it allows to investigate the order and the magnitude of the hierarchical aggregations and, in several cases, it leads to the definition of new latent and not-theoretically defined dimensions.

Abstract

In recent years, climate change is a crucial and compelling topic in public debate because of the risks for human life it could entail. This paper proposes a new hierarchical model-based composite indicator to explore the latent dimensions defining the climate change phenomenon. One of its main advantage is that it allows to investigate the order and the magnitude of the hierarchical aggregations and, in several cases, it leads to the definition of new latent and not-theoretically defined dimensions.
