Results of research concerning groundwater contamination risk assessment, management of water resources and land planning, aimed at future management modeling of groundwater resources over Milan, Italy, are presented. The selected approach to the various phases of definition and assessment is the development and statistical validation of methodologies and 'models' for the classification and ranking of each situation by the use of readily available data. In the report, the results of this analysis are shown in terms of: discretization obtained, by the use of a package prepared in-house specifically for the storage and manipulation of water-well data; the distribution of physical and hydraulic properties; vulnerability and pollution potential assessment; and statistical analysis of lithologic and grain size distribution.
