Numerous studies conducted in Palestine have reported mostly negative psychological effects in children exposed to war. There has been sustained political and military violence in the Occupied Territories since the II Intifada (uprising) of 2000, with one study in the West Bank finding a 72.8% incidence of mild PTSD, and a 41% incidence of medium and severe cases. In addition, direct and indirect exposure to trauma has been linked to disruption of sleep and concentration, somatic symptom disorders, impulsive behaviours and depression. Few studies report data on positive ways of coping with trauma, or resilience, although a study carried out in Gaza with 640 children found 21% to be resilient.
