The aim of this paper is to deliver a comparative study between Max Scheler and Henri Bergson, with regards to their conceptions of the human being. It is indeed well known that Scheler was an attentive reader of Bergson’s philosophy and that he borrowed from the French thinker some fundamental ideas, such as the notion of intuition, the pragmatist conception of perception, or the concept of life. But nowadays, the influence of Bergsonism on the development of Scheler’s philosophical anthropology remains neglected or, at best, barely examined. By relying on the concepts of living body, Bildung, and memory, this essay tries to highlight the role of Bergsonism in Scheler’s redefinition of the relation between Leben and Geist.
