Dictation is still widely used as a tool for teaching writing in early primary education in Italy, although there is little research to show how teachers dictate and how effective this tool is. Using the qualitative research which has been carried out, this work will analyse the texts dictated by teachers, reflecting on errors related to the way teachers dictate, and present some considerations with regard to the usefulness of this tool for learning how to write and spell.
