To develop new and efficient neutron scintillator, Ti-doped LiAlO 2 single crystal was grown by micro-pulling-down method. The photoluminescence characteristics including emission spectra, excitation spectra, and decay curves were measured. This material exhibits relatively high light yield, which exceeds that of the Li-glass standard neutron scintillator. There can be a possibility to further increase the efficiency by increasing the dopant concentration. The Ti4 charge transfer luminescence was found to be the leading luminescence process with 2.5 μs decay time. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
