Supporting the user in finding relevant information is one of the major tasks in Information Retrieval. The user-centered approach to IR is based on a user profile that represents the user’s interests and preferences, to obtain relevant information beyond the formulation of a query. Nowadays, the content diffused by people in the Social Web represents a source of primary information to build a user profile. For this reason, the aim of this paper is to propose an event-based approach to user profiling in social media, where an event is identified as a named-entity. Furthermore, by the proposed approach, it is possible to consider the user’s interests evolution over time.

Abstract
Supporting the user in finding relevant information is one of the major tasks in Information Retrieval. The user-centered approach to IR is based on a user profile that represents the user’s interests and preferences, to obtain relevant information beyond the formulation of a query. Nowadays, the content diffused by people in the Social Web represents a source of primary information to build a user profile. For this reason, the aim of this paper is to propose an event-based approach to user profiling in social media, where an event is identified as a named-entity. Furthermore, by the proposed approach, it is possible to consider the user’s interests evolution over time.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
