Cellular Automata constitute a promising approach in modeling complex biological systems characterized by local interactions, which occur in parallel and give rise to the intertwined evolution of several processes of interest. Multilayered cellular automata are here proposed as a computational dynamical model for representing and simulating complex biological systems. In particular, a two-layers cellular automaton is proposed for modeling reaction-diffusion processes. The specific case of calium ion distribution in the cell is also discussed

Abstract
Cellular Automata constitute a promising approach in modeling complex biological systems characterized by local interactions, which occur in parallel and give rise to the intertwined evolution of several processes of interest. Multilayered cellular automata are here proposed as a computational dynamical model for representing and simulating complex biological systems. In particular, a two-layers cellular automaton is proposed for modeling reaction-diffusion processes. The specific case of calium ion distribution in the cell is also discussedI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
