Paternità e vita familiare nella Grecia antica

This volume provides some reflections on familial relations, with particular reference to the image of paternity and the father, as represented in works of art, literature and history from Ancient Greece. Interestingly, the father figure is found to be more varied and elaborate than might appear at first sight. The widespread diffusion of this image and the frequency with which it appears bear witness to a well-established collective iconography of the paternal function that permeated the Greek imaginary and has constituted a complex and significant weave running through many aspects of our cultural history. The text presents a detailed analysis of the literary sources (epic poetry, historiography, drama and philosophy from the Archaic and Classical periods) as well as selected artistic documents (specifically, Archaic and Classical ceramography)

Il testo propone alcune riflessioni sulle relazioni familiari, dando risalto all’immagine della paternità e del padre, così come appare nelle testimonianze artistiche, letterarie, storiche della Grecia antica. E’ interessante notare come la figura paterna si presenti molto più ricca e articolata di quanto a prima vista possa apparire. La diffusione e la frequenza con cui tale immagine compare, inoltre, testimoniano la diffusione di una iconografia collettiva della funzione paterna che ha permeato l’immaginario greco e che, per molti aspetti,si è rivelata una trama complessa e significativa che ha attraversato la nostra storia culturale. Il testo propone un’analisi dettagliata delle fonti letterarie ( epica, storiografia, drammaturgia, filosofia del periodo arcaico e classico) e di alcuni documenti artistici (in particolare, la ceramografia di età arcaica e classica).
